Google says the Latvian Telecoms Vlog video is live and available. They could have watched King Kong (3 hours) 12 or 15 times in the time they took to verify it. But when I look up my video on video.google.com (search under Latvian), it says that it is not available for viewing. It just goes to show that whatever is free is often garbage. Perhaps Lattelekom will launch its video archive service soon and one will be able to put the occasional video blog on it.
I borrowed my youngest son's Packard-Bell Wintel laptop and found that Lattelekom's IPTV worked rather well (it doesn't work on the iMac G5). I put the LNT broadcast of the movie Air America on full screen, and it looked about like a DVD played on the computer would look. So, I give them a good mark for effort and await:
a) that it works for Macintosh
b) that we get some foreign, non-Russian channels, like CNN and BBC World.

What do you know about the licence for new cdma carriers? I heard that there some some band awarded to some companies for cdma business activies.
Thanks
What do you think of this article http://www.sprk.gov.lv/?id=4491&sadala=294&setl=1
tv working good. at the moment there is only one channel, that I have not thru my cable - russian sport channel. more sport are welcome!:)
I don't think there will be another cdma operator, it was a false lead. These frequencies may be used for other purposes, perhaps wireless internet.
As for IPTV, the question is that once you have to pay for it, will anonymous #3 pay for it just to see his favorite Russian sports channel, which is not on his cable service? Will he/she find a new cable service that has this channel, or will there be a switch to IPTV?
as for IPTV - they should choose reasonable price for their offer with reasonable channel list. I prefer more sports: Both Eurosports, both VIA's, NTV got great sports. If We could even get American ESPN and some more It would be great package.
But nevertheless I would use this IPTV as an alternative TV.
You know - wife & kids got their own requests/needs :)) And investing money in a new TV set would be more expensive than fixed cost per month.
Anonymous,
Have you gotten this spam for worldwide broadband TV? I wonder if it is possible to put together your own package. I usually don't respond to spam, but I will look at this more closely. I understand the wife & kids situation, we have two TVs, my wife watches "Windows" in Russian(which I don't understand), mother-in-law watches a Mexican soap opera and I would prefer to watch the Latvian TV3 news, but the kid is using the Windows XP laptop to play online games and Lattelekom IPTV doesn't work on my iMac... :)
as a response on Juris (11:55) from Anonymous (11:36) :))
Nope, I havent got any spam on this one. But I hope they would listen to my prayers :)). Also I hope that they will keep those 12 (?) chanels for free after they name a price list. That would be a good step to left some basic chanels as a hook for "making ppl from dummies".
Im not an expert on iMac, but doesnt it got their own i-games. Even better than XP?
I remember the times I worked for AD-company, they used Macs for making ads and there were real cool games on Macs :)
If I had a lat for every time I died as a careless sniper playing Ghost Recon for Mac...:). (there is a bizarre mission taking a bridge across the "Lubana river" in Latvia and one of the sniper characters is an Astra Galinsky -- sounds Latvian -- and good for letting teenage girls identify with some healthy bloodshed rather than mindless reality show simulations :) )
The next time I get the spam, I'll post a link on the blog.
To tell the truth about games, you'll have to check with the younger generation, look up my Daavis (20) on draugiem.lv, for instance.
Hi, you should try to install this freeware solution: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060107000038641&lsrc=osxh
It helped me to open video on www.tv.lv but I cannot check apollo.tv because I am not a mdsl user.
It seems, that they cut too long words here. try this adress http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
Normund,
Downloaded the thing, but it doesn't seem to make apollo tv work. I have HomeDSL, IPTV works fine on a Wintel laptop. Maybe it is time to switch to a Intel Mac :)?
Somebody mentioned Mac(in)tel ...
Sorry thats in Latvian :)
